Power and influence has been sought by people over time — and the most natural tool is to use fear. It’s what makes people move. The boring rational truth is sometimes not as exciting as the lies that can be made up.
So over the history of …mankind, power mongers use the tried and true topics of DEATH and SEX and SATAN — and isnt’ it interesting to see how these have carried over into our modern civilized world? Obviously, sex is a topic that we have scandalized (or the christian religion has ; victorian era… ) to the point that we are only recently talking about it in mixed company — and that’s only among the more educated… and in hollywood and the more educated
a friend said to his wife how sad it is that we can’t talk about sex in society — we have to keep it secret from children, etc. — to which his wife said “your wrong — you don’t know — they talk about it in 6th grade now days, they talk to all the students… etc” . Her objection was revealing. To her, “talking about sex” is covered by a one hour lecture in sixth grade, while his point was that we don’t talk about it daily, and in frank terms, and mixed company… in terms like: we’re pre-selected by evolution to be very sexual ; that there are different kinds of and purposes for sex (love, emotion, friendly, physical, primal, etc). His wife’s comment illustrated a perfect example of the problem.
It’s also interesting that we still embrace the culture of the taboo of death. Religion makes its living off of this old-time fear. Think about all the death rituals, and customs, and the myths and superstitions that deal with the dead, living. … it’s an obvious carry-over from our past, when death was a topic used to control some by others (religion). Adn isn’t it obvious why religion will never give it up?
Also think about how religion embraces (death topic also) the superstitions of SACRIFICE. The christian sacrament, last supper, etc. are similitudes of human sacrifice! Doesn’t that make it ok that it happened to the religious? Do they realize that they’re endorsing human sacrifice? Just because it happened long ago doesn’t make it ok. It also indicates that God is one who required it. How moral is that?? The truth is that sacrifice, done to appease gods, made victims of innocent women and children, and scapegoated them. The double dumb whammy: Wrong causes and wrong victims for the wrong causes of famine, floods, earthquakes, etc.
History has used death and sacrifice to motivate people — and we’re still stuck with the leftovers!
