An idea for a survey question
How old do you think the earth is?
When I was a sunday school teacher in Primary, teaching 7 year olds, a lesson ended with a quote from President Ezra Taft Benson, about the mormon doctrine of the preexistence:
“For nearly six thousand years, God has held you in reserve to make your appearance in the final days before the Second Coming of the Lord.”
This quote clearly demonstrated that he, a “prophet,” believed that the earth was 6000 years old. Furthermore, this was in the year 2005, when it was in a current LDS sunday school teaching manual. So the church, as a church, endorsed the belief in a 6000 year old earth.
